1. Gardening
Learning to grow your own food and herbs is one of the foundational skills for homesteading. This leads to a sustainable food source and will teach you what you can successfully grow during all the seasons.
When we started out we only had a small sunny area to work with. We decided we wanted to build raised 8” wood beds, we constructed them on our own. Important do not use pressure treated, painted or stained wood. We also used a few 5 gallon buckets to use on our deck. With buckets drill plenty of holes and stones on the bottom for proper drainage.
If you are limited with space and materials you can purchase raised beds and buckets to get you started. Today they sell space saver solutions, they have tall thin units.
